Continued Growth in Online Video

10 Billion Online Videos Viewed in February - Up 66% in One Year

From MarketingVox

"72.8 percent of the total US internet audience viewed online video."

I think it was interesting that on the Google/YouTube sites users averaged 109 minutes of video viewed over the course of the month. That works out to about 6 minutes per work day.

Kobe Aston Martin Spot

Nike, I think, excels when their communications really target in on that which inspires and amazes us about athletic ability.

I feel like they fall short of that a little with this execution precisely because there's some fakery and Movie Magic mixed in here...

Bud.TV - New Strategy?

Reported at MediaPost...

Anheuser-Busch has hired New Media Strategies, an online intelligence monitoring company, to tap into the tastes and behaviors of digital content consumers. The partnership is designed to help A-B focus the Bud.TV more directly on the interests and desires of its target consumers through changes to the content format and the addition of new features.

I thought this quote was notable :
"The odds of making it a come-and-view situation could have worked, but not with a high probability," (Schumacher) said. "We should have understood the whole architecture of the Internet from a marketing standpoint."
No mention of changes to the registration/entry portion of the site experience.

New RealPlayer Beta Release

Set for beta release later this month, "the new RealPlayer will allow consumers to 'download Internet video instantly' from YouTube, Yahoo and virtually anywhere else on the Web. Viewers can then build a library for full-screen playback either on PCs, or--after burning to disc--on TV sets."

Official Press Release from RealNetworks here

Potentially transformative? Yes. In this version however it appears the only significant product attributes are 1) setting the videos to download in the background to a personal play list that you can view at your convenience and 2) one-click tranformation of a multi-format playlist to a DVD.

Until you can port these videos to your Apple TV (apple version not avaiable for initial release), Sling Box, or portable device this is only a convenience factor for people who are already watching a fair amount of webvideos. I.e. it's not going to signigificant increase the amount of web video that's getting watched or convert new users. Just my $.02

A-B Discussing Scaling Back Bud.TV

Anheuser-Busch had first quarter earnings call with analysts on Tuesday. Despite sharing encouraging numbers reflecting growth in its core businesses as well as new ventures (a beer-tomato cocktail ???) it appears likely that Bud.TV will be phased out.

Busch said Tuesday that Bud.TV will "probably fade a bit" this year.

... tight controls on the website — meant to stop underage viewers from accessing the skits and shows, some of which included beer — put the company in a "no-win situation," said Busch.

"We thought we had a fantastic idea," said Busch. "We put a Fort Knox entry system on the website to ensure that there would be nobody underage that could get into the website."

As a result, he said, "I can't even figure out how to get into the website." ...

Anheuser-Busch indicated that Bud.TV would still play a role in marketing efforts, but it did not elaborate.

Bud.TV "will continue to develop," Tony Ponturo, vice president of global media and sports marketing at A-B's domestic beer subsidiary, said in a statement. "We are eager to evolve Bud.TV as part of a broader digital future for our brands to reach today's consumer.
